Abstract

This study focus on British–French Competition on Southern Red Sea Coasts (yemen) (1762–1802) dealing with the beginnings of each state existence in the area and how good relations were established with the area rulers, in particular Yemen rulers and improving their relations with the Ottoman State. This resulted in fears of each state leading to competition that took various forms either as political and commercial interventions or military confrontations the main of which was French invasion of Egypt in 1798 and its impacts on the red sea. These were but attempts to achieve more political and economic gains in the Red Sea.
