Abstract
The paper is aiming at knowing the effectiveness of encouraging and frightening (Targheeb and Tarheeb) on the promotion of Islamic values for the first intermediate class students. To achieve this goal, the researchers have put the following zero hypothesis: "There is no statistical signification difference on a significance level (0.05) between the average of scores of the first empirical group students who are studying by encouragement (Targheeb) style and the average of scores of the second empirical group students who are studying by frightening (Tarheeb) style in the test of Islamic values promotion".
Quteibah Bin Muslim intermediate school, one of Nineveh Education Directorate schools, is chosen as the applied domain for the study. The empirical design with the partial control for two experimental groups is used. The two styles, encouraging and frightening (Targheeb and Tarheeb), are randomly divided by the researchers into two sections of first intermediate class students. The research sample is consisted of (90) students (30 students for the first empirical group, 32 students for the second group). The researchers have made an equivalence process for the two groups using the following variables: (age – scores in Islamic education subject of sixth primary class for the year 2008 – 2009), and the level of education for fathers and mothers).
The researchers have determined the values of the experiment and formulated (60) behavioral goals depending upon Bloom classification concerning the knowledge field for the first three levels (knowledge, understanding, application). One of the researchers, by himself, has taught both research groups in the experiment which lasted a complete study course. The researchers have prepared a test of promotion in the experiment values consisted of (30) articles from two types of selection articles (which is multiple?). To prove its feasibility for students, these values are reviewed by a group of experts to know the extent of its explicit fitness. Then they are applied on a pilot sample to measure the level of their complexity, easiness, distinguishing force, and coefficients of the effectiveness of their inappropriate substitutes. The following statistical devices are used: (T test , Kai square, Pearson correlation coefficients, difficulty coefficients, distinguishing force coefficients, and the wrong substitutes effectiveness).
At the end of the experiment, the researchers have applied promotion test on the two research groups. Through statistical data analysis, a statistical signification divergence on significance level (0.05) is appeared in favor of the first experimental group students, (group of encouragement style).
According to the research results, the researchers have Recommended the following :
1. The necessity of using encouraging and frightening (Targheeb and Tarheeb) styles should be stressed upon by education supervisors as one of teaching effective methods of scoring besides the other styles.
2. The importance of training using encouragement style through developing courses for teaching staff, with their acquaintance with the sound steps for teaching Islamic education.
Some suggestions were proposed such as:
Conducting a similar study on other teaching stages, making a balance according to gender, and measuring the effect of using other types of education styles of scoring
