الملخص
In the present work, a new Schiff base, the (3-((4-benzoylphenyl) imino) indolin-2-one ), derived from the condensation reaction of isatin with 4-amino benzophenone in the presence of glacial acetic acid has been was synthesized. In general, the ligand (BI=C21H14N2O2) is bidentate and it contains oxygen (O) and nitrogen (N) donor atoms. The transition metal complexes of Schiff bases have been synthesized by reacting the ligand (1:1 or 1:2) molar ratio with various metals ions (Co+2, Ni+2, Cu+2, and Cd+2) chlorides. All the newly prepared materials have been characterized by several spectroscopic methods, such as infrared FT-IR,1HNMR spectrum and ultra violet visible UV-vis, C.H.N., magnetic moment, conductivity measurements, and melting point. The results demonstrate that the complexes of general formula [M(BI)2Cl2] have been octahedral coordination, while the complexes of general formula [M(BI)Cl2] have showed tetrahedral coordination. The biological activity of the ligand and all the prepared complexes has been measured by studying the inhibitory effect on the growth of two different types of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria using the disc diffusion method.
