Abstract

The book of "Qalalid al-Juman fi Faraid Shu'ara hadha al-Zaman " by Ibn al-Shaar al-Mawsilli is considered to be one of the most important biological books with great historical values. There is yet another merit of the book which is its broad spatial domain of the biographies of Ibn al-Shaar al-Mawsilli.  Of the cities that Ibn al-Shaar wrote about their people in his work of "Qalalid al-Juman" , is the city of Wasit. Due to the importance of this city , Ibn al-Shaar al-Mawsilli mentioned more than 45 biographies that covered nearly all the scientific specializations with the years of their births and Deaths varying between the 6th and 7th Centuries AH and the 12th and 13th centuries AD.  The sources of the biographies varied from direct oral tales to indirect oral tales in addition to written sources which are in the second position. Thus, the importance of the biographies that were done by Ibn al-shaar about the city of Wasit can be clearly seen.
