Abstract
Abu Zakariya al-Azdi's "Ta'rkh al-Mawsil" suggests to that it is about the local history of Mosul. However, after investigating and reading the book ,it is seen that its material is beyond the domain of the history of the city ,especially the remaining part of it which concern the period (101-224 A.H./719-838 A.D.) It is full of historical events from the late period of Umayyad history(41-132A.H./661-749A.D.):and the starting of remaining part to the Abbasid reign (132-656 A.H./661-1258 A.D.) Hence forth ,many questions should raise ,What are the sources that Al-Azdi had depended on in recording the outer events of Mosul? Among those sources is Ta'rkh Khalifa bin Khaiat (Died 240A.H/854A.D) ; its name appeared many times in Al-Azdi"s book .hence forth, the importance of this research comes through treating many points required by the method of the research . These Points are the modes adopted by Al-Azdi in quoting from Khalifa and the comparison between two historian's recounting in order to access the method adopted by Al-Azdi .- Article View: 21
